Helpful Tips

If you would rather use watercolors for this bird that is fine. You don’t need to purchase the inks unless you want to get some great experience using them. They are very similar to watercolors.

Have a tissue ready in case you need them to wipe away excess ink. Make sure to keep the ink very light by using a lot of water.

The step in session 3 is optional. Study the finished painting before you decide to do this. Too many students can mess up the picture because they make the background too dark with the ink. It may help to practice the strokes on a separate sheet of paper and then determine to do them.

If you do decide to do the background, be sure to mix enough water and dye to make enough for the whole background (adding more water to make the ink very light). If you mix more later it won’t look as uniform.
