Helpful Tips

Drawing Tips:

Before transferring the design to the Balsa foam – make sure your drawing is perfect! The more you rework and improve the drawing, the better your carving will be.

The buffalo needs to have somewhere to go in your carving in order for it to look right. So when you position the drawing over the Balsa, place the buffalo in a position where there will be plenty of room in front of the buffalo.

Carving Tips:

Use any carving tools that you have. Each person will prefer different tools for different reasons.

Never, ever, blow on the dust of the Balsa foam. It can irritate your eyes. Instead, brush it off with your fingers. Do not rub your eyes after you have touched the Balsa, or if you get the dust in your eyes. Instead flush your eyes with water if they become irritated.
