Beginners Level

Unique from the rest of the program, the Beginners Level is designed to be simple, short, and fun. Sharon has designed these projects so that anyone four years old and up can finish a masterpiece in an average of forty-five minutes to an hour.

In these projects Sharon will teach students the most foundational fine art techniques as they progress through a simple introductory project. This level contains fun, introductory instruction in more than seven different media! These media include watercolor, charcoal, gouache, oil pastel, ink (Tombow and Bombay), mixed media, and alcohol ink. Each project is made up of one lesson divided into multiple smaller sections.

Level 1

Are you a new fine art student? Sharon has designed this level specifically for you. This foundational, proven instruction has led to the success of thousands of students worldwide! We have received thousands of pictures of four to six year olds holding their finished projects. If a four year old can do it, so can you!

In this level you will learn the foundations of acrylic painting, earthenware sculpture, soft pastel, drawing with pencil, silk dying, and colored pencil. Each project is a complete masterpiece and is made up of three to seven lessons which divided into multiple smaller sections. Most lessons will take the average student forty-five minutes to an hour and a half to complete. These projects contain three to seven times the content of the Beginners Level.

Level 2

Have you or your art student had some fine art background? Sharon has designed this level specifically for you. This level builds on level one in some mediums and introduces other new mediums.

In this level you will learn the foundations of block printing, sculpty sculpture, oil pastel, and stippling in ink. You will also continue growing your level-one skills as you progress through more advanced projects in acrylic painting and soft pastel. Each project is a complete masterpiece and is made up of three to seven lessons which are divided into multiple smaller sections. Most lessons will take the average student forty-five minutes to an hour and a half to complete.

Level 3

When was the last time you created a glass mosaic? A silk painting of a schooner on the high seas? A masterpiece level-three dimensional landscape in acrylic paint? Would you know where to start? These projects are just the beginning of the possibilities available in this level of fine art training.

In this level you will learn the foundations of glass mosaic. You will also continue growing your acquired skills as you progress through more advanced projects in silk dying, watercolor, charcoal, and sculpty sculpture. Each project is a complete masterpiece and is made up of three to seven lessons, which are divided into multiple smaller sections. Most lessons will take the average student forty-five minutes to an hour and a half to complete.

Level 4

An advanced fine artist knows that even a single color can have five or more different shades, they call these shades values. In this more advanced skill level, students will learn how to see and include various values in their projects. They will learn more advanced forms of watercolor pencil. Sharon will introduce the students to the art of tooling copper. She will also advance students to new levels of technique and skill in oil pastel and silk dying. Level 5

As an advancing fine artist you are capable of so many of your own magnificent creations. This level is designed to significantly advance a student’s artistic abilities and understanding. What are the common differences between an adult face, a child’s face, and a teenager’s? What are the secrets artists know that distinguish a male face from a female and allow them to change gender in the middle of a portrait? How does a fine artist take a block of Bulsa foam, design and carve beautiful scenes and then paint it to look like a wood carving? How does an artist mix advanced ink techniques with watercolor, while incorporating advanced understanding of values in order to create a mixed media masterpiece? Have you ever tried your hand at Conte? Students will learn all of this, and so much more, in Level 5. Begin creating today!

Most lessons will take the average student an hour to an hour and a half to complete. Level 5 projects are meant to be completed slowly and carefully. The more time you put in, the more you practice, and the more you evaluate and improve your project—the more you will grow as a fine artist.

Styles of Art in History

The Art in History program by Creating a Masterpiece is a unique and new approach to learning about art in history. Most art history programs focus on learning about the life of the artist in that period. The Art in History program will teach students how to create projects that are similar to those created in that time period.

For example, the first lesson in the Post-Impressionism project introduces that period by briefly describing and illustrating some of the artwork of Van Gogh. Sharon then quickly transitions into teaching the student how to create a Van Gogh-style painting. Sharon’s goal is to make art history come alive by creating!

The projects have varying levels of difficulty. So young students (ages 6 – 9) can complete some of the projects, while older students should be able to complete all of them. The project descriptions will help in determining which projects are right for each student.

Historically Themed Projects

This Level includes projects with various historical themes. It is perfect if you want to incorporate specific projects along with your historical studies or just want to have a blast leaning to create. Some of the projects, such as Egyptian Nomads, are simple and short. Others, such as Abraham Lincoln, are much larger and require more time. Each project description will indicate the level of difficulty of the project.
